75 Insurgents Killed In Ongoing Helmand Operations

At least 75 Taliban insurgents were killed in ongoing operations in southern Helmand province over the past six days, local officials confirmed on Sunday.

In addition, 36 other insurgents were wounded.

The operation was launched six days ago in Marja district of the province to clear the area of insurgents, and is still going, provincial governor Hayatullah Hayat said.

“The security forces are moving forward and are able to clear most parts of the district,” Hayat said.

In the meantime, Commander of 215 Maiwand Corps Gen. Wali Mohammad Ahmadzai said that the air forces are also providing support.

He also said among the dead are Taliban commanders.

Local officials said that currently the security forces are clashing with insurgents in Marjah, Garemsir, Nad Ali and Sangin districts of the province.
