Afghan ambassador to Pakistan Omar Zakhilwal on Sunday visited JUI-S chief Maulana Sami ul Haq’s following a week of deadly attacks that killed over 200 people.

Zakhilwal, who is also special presidential envoy for Pakistan, travelled to Akora Khattak on Sunday to meet Maulana Sami ul Haq, who is often dubbed as ‘Father of the Taliban’, reported Pakistan News Service.

According to the report his visit was to seek Haq’s help in getting the Taliban to the peace talks tables, the Darul Uloom Haqqania said in a statement.

It is believed that many Afghan Taliban leaders have studied at the Darul Uloom Haqqania madrassa and that Maulana Sami ul Haq enjoys some influence over them, Pakistan News Service reported.

This was however, Zakhilwal’s third visit to the madrassa in recent months.

However, Haq yet to play any active role in Afghan peace and reconciliation process, the report read.
