Afghan Forces Rescue Two Abducted Pakistani Diplomats

Pakistan's Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday that Afghan security forces have rescued two Pakistani diplomats who were abducted over 40 days ago in eastern Nangarhar province.

The diplomats were "recovered in a security operation" on Wednesday and have been handed over to the Pakistani Embassy in Kabul city, according to the statement.

President Ashraf Ghani telephoned the Pakistani embassy to inform the staff about the rescue, it said.

The diplomats were posted at Pakistan's Consulate in Jalalabad city of Nangarhar when they went missing on June 16 while they were traveling home to Pakistan.

The statement said that the diplomats will return home to be reunited with their families as soon as possible.

However, details about the operation were not issued.
