Afghanistan, Azerbaijan Sign Five Agreements

Officials from Afghanistan and Azerbaijan signed five agreements in different sectors on the sidelines of Heart of Asia Conference in Baku on Friday, Presidential Palace said in a statement.

According to the statement, President Ashraf Ghani met with Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev in Baku and both discussed different issues including the improvement of ties between the two countries.

Ghani and Aliyev discussed the opportunities on cooperation in transportation, agriculture and Afghanistan-Azerbaijan joint investments and concluded that working groups from both nations should start working on implementation of the agreements.

At the end of the two presidents’ meeting, their delegations signed the five agreements.

The agreements were signed on Economic and Trade, Promotion and Mutual Investment Support, Security and Law Enforcement, Education and Higher Education and Air Services, read the statement.

Following the singing of the agreements, the presidents appeared at a joint press conference.

Aliyev said the establishment of the working groups will help the two countries to reach their goals and implement the agreements.

President Ghani meanwhile thanked Aliyev and his country for investing in various sectors in Afghanistan.

Ghani said Afghanistan and Azerbaijan people are good friends and they value their shared interests.
