Afghanistan Opens First Ever Embassy In Greece

Acting Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani inaugurated Afghanistan’s first ever embassy in Greece on Monday and held talks with Greek officials during his trip to Athens.

This was the first visit of a senior Afghan delegation to Greece.

Rabbani said his meetings with Greek officials were aimed at strengthening political, economic and trade ties between Afghanistan and Greece.

The Greek foreign minister said his country is ready to train Afghan police and provide scholarships to students from Afghanistan.

Rabbani was also scheduled to meet with Greece’s prime minister and parliament speaker, but he cut short his trip after Balkh provincial governor Atta Mohammad Noor’s resignation was approved by the Presidential Palace.

Afghanistan’s embassy in Greece opens after thousands of Afghans have migrated to Europe through Greece in recent years.

A number of Afghan refugees have criticized the Greek government for not paying attention to their problems.
