Jamiat-e- Islami Party of Afghanistan (Islamic Society of Afghanistan) on Monday condemned the Presidential Palace’s decision to approve the resignation of Atta Mohammad Noor Balk as Balkh provincial governor.

The party said the decision was irresponsible and contrary to the stability of the country and the principles of the national unity government (NUG) agreement.

Shah Hussain Murtazawi, deputy spokesman for the president, said in a message to media that President Ashraf Ghani had approved Atta Mohammad Noor’s resignation. It appears from Murtazawi’s message that Noor had submitted his resignation previously.

After approving Atta Mohammad Noor’s resignation, Ghani appointed Engineer Mohammad Dawood, a member of the Jamiat-e-Islami party as the new governor for Balkh.

The government has not yet provided the resignation letter to the media.

Allies close to Atta Mohammad Noor say that last year when Noor negotiated with Ghani, he presented his resignation along with some preconditions. They say until those preconditions are met, the decision of the President will not be accepted.

Acting foreign minister Salahuddin Rabbani, leader of the Jamiat-e- Islami Party of Afghanistan, who had gone to Greece on a formal visit and was expected to visit Denmark, abandoned his trip halfway because of the tensions between the Jamiat-e-Islami party and the presidential palace. He has returned to the country.

According to the statement of Jamiat-e- Islami Party of Afghanistan will state its position after the return of Rabbani.

Previously, some Jamiat-e- Islami party members have said that if the presidential palace removed Atta Mohammad Noor from his position, the party will cut its political ties with the national unity government.

“You cannot fire people every single day and influence people. The problems will multiply. Every day you are complaining that Taliban and Daesh are coming; who is more effective than Atta against Daesh and Taliban and now you have also fired him,” said Wali Massoud head of Ahmad Shah Massoud foundation.

The former chief of National Directorate of Security (NDS), Amrullah Saleh, said the removal of Noor from Balkh province is not a source of concern.

“What if they have such as deep history and we do not have it? Why we must we be concerned that nothing will be left in the absence of a government mission. Why do we have this concern? Why are we not taking proper measures to reshape ourselves politically till next year so that they come and plead with us to granting them a province. Who are we have afraid of? If we say that the stakeholders do not have roots and they are a small mass and we claim that Hindukush is in our custody and say that everyone will melt down if we come down from this peak, why we are complaining from the dust and trash,” said Saleh.

Atta Mohammad Noor was governor of Balkh for about fifteen years. There are reports that former President Hamid Karzai also wanted to drive Noor several times from Balkh province, but this did not happen.

Noor is also CEO of the Jamiat-e-Islami party and the party and has a significant share in the power.
