Mawlawi Abdul Ghafoor, deputy head of the Logar Ulema Council was killed in an attack by unknown gunmen early Monday, the provincial governor’s media office said.

The incident happened early Monday while Ghafoor was on his way to mosque. He died after a number of unknown gunmen opened fire on his, an official from the governor’s office said.

Police have started investigations into the incident but so far no arrests have been made.

No group including the Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.
