Two local police force members, alledgely linked with the Taliban, opened fire on their colleagues killing at least eight of them in a local police check post in Zabul province, local officials said.

Shinkai district governor Qasim Ayubi said the incident took place on Friday night at around 10pm in the district. 

Ayubi said the attackers have taken their weapons and have left the area.

He added that an investigation is underway on the incident.

Taliban has claimed responsibility for the shooting.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident a Taliban local commander was killed in an Afghan security forces ambush in Zabul province.

Shahjoi district governor Azizi Tokhi said the Taliban commander was killed on Friday.

He said a child was killed in Taliban firing during the ambush.

Taliban has not comment on the incident.
