Foreign Drone Strike Targets Haqqani Members In Pakistan’s Kurram

At least three Haqqani members including a commander were killed in a foreign forces drone strike in the Kurram tribal region near the Durand Line, the de facto border between Afghanistan and Pakistan, on Tuesday, Pakistani media reported.

According to reports the targeted commander was identified as Juma Khan a key commander of Haqqani network.

The incident happened when Khan and the other Haqqani members were traveling in a vehicle.

Meanwhile a Haqqani member confirmed the killing of Khan to Reuters.

Last month a US drone strike hit another militant hideout near the Durand Line, killing three militants, media reports said.

Associated Press quoted two Pakistani intelligence officials as saying that an unmanned aerial device fired two missiles at the Ghaznavi compound of Haqqani network’s commander Abdul Rasheed. Haqqani is affiliated to the Taliban militants.

It was unclear if Rasheed was at the compound at the time of the strike, they said, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media, Associated Press said in its report.

According to the Associated Press report, Abdullah Asrat, spokesman for the provincial governor of Paktia province, which is located near the Kurram tribal region, said the drone strike took place on Afghan soil, in Patan district.

In addition, after the drone strike Pakistan has warned the United States that if an American drone violates the country’s airspace, it would be shot down.

Chief of Pakistan’s Air Force (PAF), Marshal Sohail Aman said that he has ordered his force to shoot down any drones, including those of the U.S., if they violate the country’s airspace.
