Ghani To Attend Arab Islamic American Summit In Riyadh

President Ashraf Ghani flew out of Kabul on Saturday afternoon for Saudi Arabia, where he will join leaders from 20 other Muslim-majority nations – a trip that coincides with U.S President Donald Trump’s visit to Riyadh.

In a press release issued on Saturday afternoon, the Presidential Palace said Ghani would be in Riyadh for two days and will meet with King Salman Bin Abdulaziz, Saudi royals as well as leaders from other countries.

The president is accompanied by Finance Minister Eklil Hakimi, the head of his administrative affairs department Abdul Salam Rahimi, presidential adviser Mohammad Humayun Qayumi, and others.

Ghani left Kabul just hours after U.S President Donald Trump touched down in the kingdom, in his first foreign trip as president.

On arrival in Riyadh, Trump was met at the airport by the Saudi king and later awarded the kingdom's highest civilian honor the gold King Abdulaziz al-Saud Medal.

During Trump’s two days in the Middle East kingdom, a weapons deal worth more than $100 billion USD is set to be unveiled.

Trump will spend most of the first day of his trip meeting with King Salman and other members of the royal family before an evening banquet.

On Sunday, he will meet with Arab and Muslim leaders for the Arab Islamic American Summit , which will focus on combating extremism.
