Ghani Calls On Nation To Raise Its Voice Against Terrorism

President Ashraf Ghani on Saturday night held an emergency meeting with senior officials from the 34 provinces via video conference where he discussed the country’s security situation especially the Friday attack.

He also discussed Friday's attack on the Afghan National Army 209 Shaheen Military Corps Headquarters in Dehdadi district in Balkh which reportedly claimed more than 130 lives, the Presidential Palace said in a statement.

Ghani said investigations into the deadly incident had started and that the deputy minister of defense, the deputy head of the national directorate of security and the chief of army staff are at the scene in order to carry on the probe.

He added that measures have been taken to transfer the bodies of fallen soldiers to their families.

“We should realize that the type of Afghanistan’s war has changed. After failing on the battlefields, the enemies are targeting civilians, mosques, religious scholars, women, youths and children,” he said at the meeting.

He added: “Afghanistan’s war is not an internal war. We are on the first line of an international war and we are at war with international terrorism.”

He stated that “today there is a need for a public besiege and all should raise their voices against crimes by terrorists, because this is a common pain for all the people”.

“Our resolve in the fight against terrorism and against the enemies of Afghanistan will not change,” he said.

According to the statement, defense and interior ministers, the NDS chief, ministers of education, higher education, hajj and religious affairs, and other senior officials also attended the meeting with the president.
