President Meets With Jamiat Council Amid Ongoing Noor Saga

At a meeting with members of Jamiat-e-Islami Integration Council on Thursday, President Ashraf Ghani said that it is the responsibility of all Afghans to maintain unity and harmony, according to a press release issued by the Presidential Palace late Thursday night.

Members of Afghanistan’s parliament Sayed Ekramuddin, Qazi Raz Mohammad Dalili, Rahim Baig Yaqoubi and MP Ghulam Farooq Majroh represented the party's council.

“They (members of Jamiat integration council) said that Jamiat-e-Islami over different periods of history has struggled for the security and stability of the country and they have rendered heavy sacrifices for this purpose and that Jamiat is ready to support and cooperate with the present system,” read the press release.

“Jamiat-e-Islami is a people-oriented party where people from all ethnicities exist. According to the constitution, appointment, reshuffling and retirement in the government is a principle and Jamiat strongly supports it,” the press release read.

It stated that the delegation also slammed the presence of power-hungry factions inside and outside government and said this was a threat to the peace and security of the country.

Based on the press release, the delegation also called on Ghani to take action against these islands of power.

The press release noted that the delegation also voiced support to government’s reform policy, economic programs and its efforts against corruption.

The delegation also stressed the need for cadres of Jamiat integration council to be used in the government institutions and to take advantage of their influence in the peace process.

In return, Ghani said that Jamiat is a people-oriented party in Afghanistan and he has a lot of respect for it.

Ghani said that Jamiat integration council has also supported stability, security and unity of the people.

“We have spent forty years in conflict, but with the help of opportunities created in favor of Afghanistan over the past two years, we will come out of the crisis in two years,” the press release quoted Ghani as saying.

“The president also highlighted the gains made by the Afghan government at the Warsaw and Brussels summits and the opportunities that came following the announcement of a new strategy by the US on Afghanistan and South Asia and said that today we need a sustainable system to run in the country, because Afghanistan has experienced the lack of a system and that instability and lack of a system were not in the interests of Afghanistan,” the press release noted.

In addition, Ghani said that the National Unity Government (NUG) was needed right now and it was the responsibility of all people to be united.
