Government buildings and district police headquarters in Ghormach district in Badhgis province - including the center of the district - have been recaptured from the Taliban by Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF), confirmed officials.
Mohammad Reza Rezai, an Afghan National Army spokesman in Faryab said that on Thursday morning an operation was launched to retake Ghormach. The operation, under the leadership of the Afghan National Army and with the participation of Afghan National Police and the Afghan National air force, was successful.
According to Rezai, the center of Ghormach district had been under the Taliban control for about two months. When the Taliban captured the district a police commander and 11 other soldiers were killed, he said.
The Taliban has yet to comment on the recapture. However clashes are still underway in three parts of the district between government forces and the insurgent group.
