President Ashraf Ghani has said that foreign forces in Afghanistan have increased their support to the Afghan security forces following president Donald Trump’s new war strategy on Afghanistan.
He made the remarks on Sunday during a visit to eastern Nangarhar province where he also said that government will spend $6 billion USD on the air force in the next four years.
“Their (NATO’s) support will increase more than this,” he said.
Ghani also visited the military hospital at the 201 Military Corps in the province and met with a number of officials in Nangarhar.
“We are ready for both war and peace. In four years we will spend $6 billion on the country’s air force,” Ghani said.
On the issue of Daesh in the eastern zone, Ghani said that the Afghan security forces have brought Daesh militants to their knees.
“The environment has changed, it has changed in a good direction and also there is still danger, good way in a manner that now we will do purposeful political negotiations with Pakistan,” said Ghani.
Afghan army chief general Sharif Yaftali also hailed the capabilities of the Afghan security forces in tackling security threats in the eastern provinces of the country.
“The main part of the strategy of the ministry of defense is to protect the gains we achieved in 1395 (2016), the security forces defended with strong faith and determination and patriotism and they restored security in eastern zone in all areas and fostered development and security,” said Yaftali.
