Kabul To Summon Diplomat Over 'Domestic Violence' Claims

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) will summon Mohammad Yama Aini, an Afghan diplomat in the United States, who reportedly beat his wife, to Kabul and will take legal action against him.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry said on Tuesday that the case against Aini will be investigated and he will face consequences in line with Afghanistan laws.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was informed about the issue through a letter received from Afghanistan’s office in New York. The ministry wants to ask the diplomat to come to Kabul,” MoFA spokesman Shekib Mustaghni said.

Aini reportedly beat his wife so badly that she required medical care at a hospital but he won't face legal action in the U.S as he has diplomatic immunity, police told the New York Post.

The report said that Mohammad Yama Aini allegedly assaulted his wife Mezhgan Aini, 30, at their home in New York city at 12:30am Saturday, police sources said.

Aini however could not be charged in the U.S, because he is a counselor to the Afghan Mission to the UN and that has diplomatic immunity.

Aini has reportedly rejected the claims against him.
