The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Monday said government has warned regional and neighboring countries against backing groups that continue to destabilize Afghanistan.

The ministry called on the countries to consider the principles of government-to-government relations.

“The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has warned regional and neighboring countries that any kind of support or contact with groups which target the people of Afghanistan and threaten the country’s security will pose a serious threat to the region as well,” MoFA spokesman Shekib Mustaghni said.

“Other countries should consider the principles of cooperation and relation between governments, because this is the only way that will be effective for overcoming common challenges in the region,” he added.

Meanwhile, university lecturer and political analyst Nasrullah Stanikzai said Kabul’s policy in overcoming the threats will be effective.

“Russia and Iran had jointly interfered in Afghan affairs from a long time ago and particularly for the past two years. They [Russia and Iran] have had relations with militant groups,” he said.

This comes after Russian ambassador to Afghanistan, Alexander Mantytskiy, earlier this week said Russia and Taliban have shared interests in fighting Daesh in Afghanistan.

He said Daesh is trying to reach Central Asia, Russia and China and that Russia has formed a relationship with the Taliban to secure its citizens' lives.
