Karzai Criticizes Trump’s New War Strategy

Former president Hamid Karzai has criticized US President Donald Trump’s new war strategy for Afghanistan and South Asia, saying the US should focus on the peace process rather than the war.

He said that the US will not succeed in turning Afghanistan into a second Syria or Iraq.

Karzai said that terror hideouts and safe havens exist outside the Afghan borders, but the US is continuing its war in Afghan villages.

Speaking to the Royal Institution of Great Britain in London, Karzai also raised a number of questions for the US officials to answer.

“Who is paying other groups, who is supplying them weapons,  who owns those unmarked white color helicopters going from base to base in Afghanistan supplying weapons, training… the entire country is under the radar surveillance of America,” said Karzai.

During the session, an Afghan woman named Arzo Bahaar strongly criticized Karzai’s policy towards the Taliban.

“Imagine that this is the blood of all those youths who are fighting against the Taliban on daily basis and the Taliban are brothers of Karzai, but I don’t understand whether they are his legitimate brothers. Therefore you (Karzai) must stop acting as a comedian and feel the suffering of your people,” she said.

“My dear sister, I agree with you,” replied Karzai.

“I am sorry, I do not want to call you brother, I am Arzo Nawbahar,” she told Karzai.

Meanwhile a number of lawmakers in parliament have reacted to Karzai’s criticisms of the US president’s war strategy for Afghanistan.

“We called the Taliban brothers over the past thirteen or fourteen years, but what is the result? Karzai achieved the biggest result, today Karzai’s wealth competes with wealthiest people, Taliban and the Taliban war which led to wealth and palaces for Jihadi leaders,” said MP Ramazan Bashardost.

“I think Karzai’s remarks are completely right and the Americans want to boost Daesh  and eliminate the Taliban,” said MP Farhad Sediqi.

Karzai who took over as Afghan president with US support became one of the major critics of US policies during the last few years of his tenure. He said that the US mission has failed in Afghanistan.

But Karzai’s critics say that he can not hide his own failures by attacking US policies.
