Asif Mohmand, a member of Balkh Provincial Council was released after two days in custody in the northern province and returned Kabul on Thursday.

The Attorney General’s Office says it has not sent any new order to arrest Mohmand. 

On Wednesday, a presidential team investigating the controversial arrest of Mohmand met with Balkh governor Atta Mohammad Noor following waves of criticism over the arrest. 

The nine member team was led by the deputy attorney general of Afghanistan. 

Mohmand was arrested late Tuesday night at Balkh international airport by Afghan security forces on charges including forgery of government documents and corruption. 

Mohmand was accused of forging signatures on documents of government officials by the Afghan legal and judicial institutions. But Mohmand has accused Noor of being involved in corruption.
