MPs Outline Solutions To End Kabul Protests

A delegation of the Wolesi Jirga (Lower House of Parliament), which mediates between government and protestors, on Saturday said they have outlined a plan which will help government to bring reforms to the security agencies.

The parliament delegation has 34 members representing 34 provinces. The delegation met with protesters on Thursday and listed their demands and will meet with government on Saturday evening.

The outlined plan will be sent to the Wolesi Jirga for approval on Monday, MPs said.

“The plan includes stern reforms in security agencies’ leadership and also it includes the clearance of security institutions from suspected figures and the figures which people have doubt on them,” said Fawzia Kofi, and MP from Badakhshan.

Some MPs said most of demands of protesters have been included in the plan.

“Under the structure of the law, we support the legal demands of the protesters,” said Obaidullah Barekzai, an MP and member of the parliament delegation.

Meanwhile, sources have told TOLOnews that President Ashraf Ghani and CEO Abdullah Abdullah met on Saturday and discussed the demands of the Jamiat-e-Islami party.

Presidential Palace and the CEO office have not commented on this.
