MPs Seek Ministries to Disclose Corrupt Lawmakers

Lawmakers on Wednesday called on the government ministries to reveal the names of the members of parliament who accepted money for votes during last week's attempt to impeach ministers.

During Wednesday's parliamentary session, MPs repeated the accusations which began last week that some lawmakers sought money from the ministers who were summoned for questioning to parliament in return for their vote of confidence.

They called on the government ministers to reveal the names of these MPs in order for them to be introduced to the judicial organs.

"The ministers should makes reports to reveal which lawmakers went [to the ministries], how many times they went to the ministries, and for what purpose in order to find the names of those lawmakers who are going for personal purposes," Kabul MP Baktash Siyawash said.

"Not all lawmakers should be blamed for taking money [as bribes]. It should be clear which lawmakers got money and have made the house unpopular," MP Ghulam Hussain Nasiri said.

"The corrupt lawmakers should be identified and introduced to the attorney general," MP Ramazan Bashardost said.

Eleven government ministers were summoned to parliament last week to explain their ministries apparent failure to spend more than 50 percent of their allocated development budget in solar year 1390 (March 2011-March 2012).

The ministers did answer the summons, but the plan to dismiss most of them was stopped in some cases before the vote was even taken amid claims that lawmakers had taken money in order to guarantee their vote of confidence for the ministers when the time came.
