National Directorate of Security (NDS) on Sunday said that its forces arrested a mosque imam in Kabul on terrorism charges. 
 
The suspect who served as Mosque imam in Qala Chaman area of Kabul was arrested while allegedly placing a magnetic mine on the door of a former employee of the US embassy in Kabul. 
 
Residents in Qala Chaman said that the suspect has served as mosque imam at the local mosque for the past eight years. 
 
CCTV footage shows a man approaching the door of the former embassy employee and then leaving after placing something on the door.
 
The suspect is known as Mawlavi Abdul Fatah. 
 
“I could not see his face clearly, there is a scarf on his head, I wondered what he was doing here, then I saw he placed something and escaped,” said doctor Tamim, the former US embassy employee in Kabul. 
 
Residents in the area said the NDS arrested the man on Wednesday after he was identified on CCTV footage, with the cooperation of local residents. 
 
“When the Mawlavi came, he was asked his name, he said that his name is Mawlavi Abdul Fatah, when I showed him the video, he said that was not him, then police arrested him,” said a resident of Qala Chaman, Qari Nurrullah.
 
“I saw the police come in the mosque and then they took Mawlavi after 20 minutes,” said another resident,  Karimullah.
 
Despite repeated efforts the TOLOnews reporter was not able to get comment from the Ministry of Hajj and Religious Affairs.
