Noor Labels Approval Of His Resignation A Plot Against Him

Atta Mohammad Noor, governor of Balkh who was removed by President Ashraf Ghani, in a meeting with women activists from the province on Friday, said the approval of his resignation by the president was a plot against him.

Without naming anyone, Noor said there are groups within government who want to remove him and his team from the administration.

“Their (groups within government) goal is not just the seat of Balkh governor. I will gift them the Balkh governor’s seat if I realize that their thirst for selfishness and discrimination ends and if I realize that they will stop following their nefarious ends. But I know that they want to remove each and every seat and office, even the small ones, of our people across Afghanistan. They have no tolerance against us,” Noor said at the meeting.

At the same event, women activists said the tension between Jamiat-e-Islami Party of Afghanistan and government should end throughnegotiations.

“We want to go to Kabul and overcome the issue through talks because we know that you (Atta Mohammad Noor) are in favor of negotiations and peace,” Amina, an activist from Balkh, said.

“From here, we want to call on Balkh governor (Atta Mohammad Noor) and President (Ashraf Ghani) to resolve the issue through national consensus because this is a matter of national interests,” said Palwasha, another resident of Balkh.

Presidential Palace has not commented on Noor’s remarks.
