Political Movements Criticize Govt Over Electoral Issues

Members of two political groups at a gathering on Friday criticized government over delay in electoral reforms and addressing people’s demands.

At the event, the Transition Movement members joined the Coalition for the Salvation of Afghanistan.

Members of the movement said government has not addressed people’s demands and has no plan to end the current crisis.

The key members of the Coalition for the Salvation of Afghanistan are Balkh governor Atta Mohammad Noor, First Vice President General Abdul Rashid Dostum and the second deputy chief executive Mohammad Mohaqiq.

“The Transition Movement following numerous studies and assessments, especially on the political issues, political parties and coalitions, decided to support the Coalition for Salvation of Afghanistan for its plans,” member of the movement Haroon Mutaref said.

“The National Unity Government’s structure has no compliance with the Constitution of Afghanistan,” spokesman of Jamiat-e-Islami party Waqif Hakimi said.

Participants of the gathering said government has failed to implement the political agreement based on which the National Unity Government was established.

They claimed that government has no intention to hold the upcoming parliamentary and district councils’ elections on time.

“What happened to the amendment of the Constitution, what happened to the Loya Jirga (the Grand Assembly) and what is going with elections? These are the issues that take us to a next phase,” acting director of Hizb-e-Wahdat-e-Islami party Mohammad Natiqi said.

“After three years, we have reached the point to fully believe that (government) is doing nothing except deceiving the people,” former head of the Independent Election Commission Fazl Ahmad Manawi said.
