At least seven local police force members including thier commander were killed in an ambush by insurgents in Darzab district in Jawzjan province, local officials confirmed on Friday.

Jawzjan police chief Gen. Rahmatullah Turkistani siad the local police commander, named Shah Mohammad, and his forces were returning from mosque when they were attacked by insurgents.

Four local police force members were wounded in the attack, he added.

The incident took place in Sar Dara village of Darzab district, Turkistani said.

Turkistani added that four insurgents were killed and six others wounded in the gunfight.
