Qarabagh Residents Call For Official Probe Into Air Strike

Guests who attended an engagement ceremony in Kabul’s Qarabagh district on Monday night have called for a full investigation into the air strike in the area that killed two people and wounded three others.

The guests and residents in the area said the air strike was carried out by foreign troops in helicopters. Resolute Support has not commented in this regard.

According to the locals the incident happened in Jarchi village after guests at the ceremony opened fire in celebration.

One of the victims killed in the air strike was a policeman who, after four months on duty in Maidan Wardak province, returned home on vacation.

The policeman, Ahmadzai, joined the police two years ago.

Relatives of the victims urged government to investigate the incident and find those who were involved.

“We want the government to investigate the issue to prevent the same happening in future,” Ahmadzai’s uncle, Mohammad Akbar said.

The brother of the groom-to-be, Mohammad Anwar, said two of his relatives were killed in the air strike.

“I was with them and I left them moments before the attack and then they were killed. I accept that they had light weapons with them,” said Mohammad Anwar.

Tribal elders said after the attack, the village was surrounded on the ground and in the air by foreign troops for three hours and soldiers searched all houses close to the scene of the attack.

“There were neither Taliban nor illegal armed men. They were ordinary people,” Habib, a tribal elder said.

The local officials refused to comment about the incident, but the presence of illegal armed men in the district has always has been a big concern.

Regarding the presence of armed groups, Qarabagh police chief said no illegal armed men or groups exist in the district.

“There are no illegal armed men in the district. And if there was, we have taken their weapons,” Qarabagh police chief, Khalid Haqparast said.

As yet, no team has been sent to the area to investigate.
