Roya Sadat To Get US Women Of Courage Award

Afghan filmmaker Roya Sadat is among 10 women who will receive the 2018 International Women of Courage Award which is presented annually by the United States Department of State. 

The award is given to women around the world who have shown leadership, courage, resourcefulness and willingness to sacrifice for others, particularly in women’s rights.

The US Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan will host the annual International Women of Courage Award ceremony on March 23. 
Melania Trump, the US first lady, will deliver special remarks at the ceremony.

Sadat received an alternative Oscar award by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs earlier this month for her movie ‘A Letter to the President’.

Directed by Roya Sadat, ‘A Letter to the President’ showcases the hardships of a woman in Afghanistan. The 90-minute, full length movie took two years to complete.

An extract from the official website outlines the story and reads says it is about a woman named Soraya who is a public official and tries to enforce the law within the terrible situation of Afghanistan today.
