Doctors from Istiqlal hospital in Kabul city who treated the majority of wounded from Thursday's suicide attack on the Tebyan Cultural Center said most victims were young people.

The deadly attack, carried out by Daesh, killed 41 people and wounded over 80 and was the group's 7th suicide bombing in the capital in just over two months.

According to the head of Tebyan Cultural Center, Sayed Baqir, over two hundred people were present at the center at the time of the attack - which happened during a cultural conference.

Following the attack, families and loved ones of the victims gathered outside the hospital frantically waiting for news of their relatives.

Some of those who lost their loved ones in the attack expressed outrage over the performance of government and accused them of incompetence.

“The suicide attack happened in the middle of the meeting, then fire broke out all around and then I don’t remember how we got out,” said one survivor, Rabia.

“I saw around me that everything was burning, all the people were lying on the ground and some were burning, I was also in a very critical situation,” said another wounded victim.

“Many of them have been burnt, some of them have lost body parts,” said Saber Naseeb, head of Istiqlal hospital.

Those injured in the attack have called on government to increase security measures for religious and cultural institutions.

“Government officials should stop sacrificing the people for their personal interests, those who are killed are not the sons of ministers and high profile people and not the son of the president; all of the victims are the poor, all those who were present here were coming here for training,” said one angry citizen.

“Five of them are in critical condition, the rest are not in serious condition but doctors are working on them; we pray that they recover very soon,” said Mohibullah Zeer, an official from the health ministry.

Tebyan Cultural Center initiated its activities in Afghanistan thirteen years ago.
