Taliban’s Coordinated Attack Pushed Back In Ghor

A coordinated attack by the Taliban on Tiora and Pasaband districts in Ghor province, in Afghanistan’s west, was repelled by government forces after few hours of heavy clashes, local officials said in a statement on Friday.

The offensive was conducted by dozens of Taliban fighters on Thursday night and continued by early morning on Friday, Ghor police spokesman Mohammad Iqbal Nizami told TOLOnews.

At least 22 Taliban militants were killed and eight others were wounded in the clash, he said.

He added that four security force members were killed in the battle.

Meanwhile, the Herat governor’s office said in a statement on Friday that at least 20 insurgents were killed in a three-day military operation conducted by security forces in Shindand district in Herat province.

Herat governor’s spokesman Jelani Farhad said Mullah Abbas Haqqani, a local commander of the Taliban, is among those killed in the operation.

He said the military operation is ongoing in parts of Shindand to clear the insecure parts of the district of Taliban.
