Trump And Team About To Decide On Afghanistan War

The U.S. Secretary of Defense, Jim Mattis, has said that President Donald Trump will meet with his National Security Team on Friday evening where they will talk on Washington’s new strategy on Afghanistan.

Talks and discussions on Afghanistan started over last six months, but tonight’s discussion seems to find a way forward to finalize the Afghanistan war strategy.

"In regard to the Afghanistan... We will meet with the president, Tillerson and I, and some others from the national security team. We will move this toward a decision," said Mattis.  “We are coming very close to a decision, and I anticipate it in the very near future.”

The U.S. former foreign policy advisor, Paul Bonicelli, meanwhile said Washington at least needs to deploy 10,000 soldiers to Afghanistan to win the long-lasted war.

The U.S Army Joint-Chief of Staffs has said that by the announcement of the new strategy, the requests of the U.S. and NATO forces commander in Afghanistan, General John Nicholson will be responded positively.

U.S. Department of State also said they will not forget U.S. soldiers and Afghan people and that due to the importance of the issue, Trump is reviewing the strategy.

“Our forces, the Afghan people have not been forgotten. That is an important issue for us and that is why president has asked for a full review of our Afghan policy,” state department of state spokesperson, Heather Nauert said.

Meanwhile, the United States Special Chargé d'Affaires Hugo Llorens in a message on Afghanistan 98th Independence Day on Friday said they support the Afghans’ tireless efforts regarding building peace in the country.

“We will continue to stand with you and support your tireless efforts to achieve a united, peaceful, and prosperous, Afghanistan,” said Llorens.
