US Soldier Dies After Chopper Crash In Logar

A US service member died late Friday evening in Logar province as a result of injuries sustained during a chopper crash, Resolute Support said in a statement.

We can confirm the crash was not the result of enemy action. We have full accountability of all personnel and the crash site has been secured,” the statement said.

According to the statement six other US crew members were injured.

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of our comrade,” said General John Nicholson, commander, Resolute Support.

"On behalf of all of Resolute Support, our heartfelt sympathies go out to the families and friends of our fallen comrade and those injured in this unfortunate event,” Nicholson added.

Resolute Support is investigating the circumstances of the crash to determine more facts and will release relevant details as appropriate, the statement said.

The exact number of US troops already in Afghanistan is not known but official statistics put the total at 8,400 but the US recently stated there were as many as 11,000 already in the country.

According to Resolute Support the helicopter crash had not been due to enemy action but they did not release further details.
