Wahid Qasemi Looking for Traditional Music Faces

Wahid Qasemi, the son of Ustad Qasim, a well known Afghan musician, has been famous for his creative and good songs in the past three decades

Wahid Qasemi who lives in Canada, has visited Afghanistan many times in recent years, and besides holding concerts in Kabul, has conducted researches on local Afghan music.

"Our team has started its studies on Afghan traditional music in different parts of the country. We have already travelled to the north, especially to Badakhshan, and we want to note the musical instruments, artists and anything relating to the music of a specific region and then record them," Qasemi said.

"We have had achievements in this field so far, and we will soon travel to provinces like Herat and Nangarhar," he added.

Wahid Qasemi is a music composer as well, and has also sung with some other musicians.

Qasemi is one of the few Afghan artists who has brought creativity in his songs.

He has also played songs for youths and children.

"When I was teacher at a kindergarten, I got familiar with children's psychology, and I realized what kind of music they like. Therefore, I composed a few songs for children who are the future builders," Qasemi added.

He said no serious attention is given
to the traditional Afghan music, and added that lack of good poems in the modern Afghan music is among the problems facing Afghan music.

"A commission must be created and the songs of all amateur singers must be judged there, and after that must be given the permission to be broadcasted on TVs. Unfortunately some TVs networks cast some music pieces that are damaging for the country's music," he said.

Wahid Qasemi is also famous for re-singing Afghan folk music. Qasemi has also made songs for blinds.

He said the music that is popular as Indian style in Afghanistan, is actually a combination of Khorasani and Indian style of music.

Qasemi said he will continue his travel all over Afghanistan to deeply study Afghan traditional music.
