Women's Crafts Expo Held In Kabul

An exhibition of handicrafts and home-made products by 650 women was held in Kabul on Tuesday.

The women were trained through a women's empowerment program by Canadian NGO, War Child, in three provinces.

“First we were trained for six months,” said Marzia, one of the women.

“We have provided the women with raw materials (to prepare the products and handicrafts) and later they will buy the raw materials after they sold their products,” said Wali Nishat, a manager of the project.

“Our sales were good as we started in the morning,” said Bibi Fatima Azimi, a trainer of the program.

The project has also covered children from 350 families.

“This is good for women's empowerment and also for their income,” said Madina Salimi, a member of the Sister and Mother Association.

The three-year project was launched for the women of Kabul, Kandahar and Nangarhar provinces.
