DABS to Introduce Monthly Electricity Account System

Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) on Wednesday said that it is planning to roll out a monthly billing system.

According to its new plan, there will some changes to the way bills are paid.

A number of residents in Kabul have welcomed the move, but urged DABS to not increase electricity tariffs.

DABS has said it will hire more employees in order to implement the plan effectively.

Currently, consumers who use more than 200kw electricity pay 2.5 AFs for each kilowatt, but if they use more than 400kw, then they pay 3.5 AFs per kilowatt.

DABS argues that according to the new plan, they need to bring changes to the price of electricity as well.

“I think it is good that they charge the existing amount of 2.5 AFs to help the people,”  said one Kabul resident, Mohammad Yasin.

“Bills must come on a monthly basis so that the people can afford it,” said another resident, Sayed Hamid.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Water and Energy (MoWE) has said it was in talks with power exporters in a bid to reduce the overall cost of electricity coming in to the country.
