A Good Year For Farah’s Watermelon Farmers

Officials at the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) on Wednesday said farmers have reported a five percent increase in watermelon harvests, which will generate an estimated four billion AFs in revenue for the province.
 
The ministry said it is estimated that this year the watermelon crops in Farah will total 578,000 tons which shows an increase of five percent compared to last year.
 
The ministry said that due to favorable climate conditions and high yielding farms in Farah it is estimated that crops will average 34 tons per hectare.
 
The ministry said this year farmers will earn a total of four billion AFs through the sale of watermelons in the province.
