Kabul Residents Concerned About Price Hike

A number of Kabul residents on Sunday said they are concerned about price hike in local markets, adding that government has failed to take action in this respect.

They said the Torkham and Spin Boldak crossings have been opened five days ago but the prices have not decreased so far.

“There are many problems in the local markets. Prices are increasing rapidly but fall slowly and even in some cases the prices remain the same for a long time,” Masjidi a Kabul resident said.

“Government must prevent hoarding, monopoly and those who are selling with high prices because people are poor and cannot afford their needs if the situation prevailed,” said Hidaytullah another resident.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) said trucks have not arrived from Pakistan.

“We hope that the prices decrease after the trucks arrive from Pakistan,” the ACCI spokesman Siyam Pisarlay said.

However, the Ministry of Commerce and Industries (MoCI) has said that commodities prices have decreased in the local markets.

“The prices of goods that were increased now have decreased and we are supervising the market,” Musafer Qoqandi, spokesman for the ministry of commerce and industries said.
