Khost Residents Concerned Over Use Of Pakistani Kaldars

A number of Khost residents have said goods being bought and sold in their province are mostly being done so with Kaldars (Pakistani Rupees) instead of Afghanis.

The residents said local government has not addressed this problem nor the problems caused by the use of Kaldars.

“We are tired of Kaldar’s being used for business in the market. We urge central government to promote the Afghani in the daily market. We do not want to use Kaldars anymore,” said Din Mohammad, a resident of Khost.

“We face lots of problems, especially when the dollar rate increases or decreases. We do not know why government does not take action in this regard. We live in Afghanistan, but use Pakistani Kaldar,” said Abdul Qodos, another resident of Khost province.

Hakam Khan Habibi, governor of Khost province, said little effort has been made to promote the use of Afghanis and to rule out the use of Kaldars. He said however, that steps would be taken in this regard.

“Good motivation is needed to promote the Afghani in the market. From now on, I will give orders to local government departments to stop the use of Kaldar and encourage people to use Afghanis instead,” he said.
