What will be the differences between the pre and post-transition Afghanistan?

There is optimism among Afghan security officials about capability of the Afghan forces to take security lead.

But some of the recent insurgent attacks, especially the incident in Kabul Intercontinental hotel raised doubts about Afghan forces' potential to shoulder the burden on their own.

Security handover to Afghan forces is due to start by the end of this week and the Afghan government has expressed readiness amid concerns that the national forces may not yet be able to stand on their own feet.

In the case of the Kabul Intercontinental hotel attack, the siege only ended after foreign forces in interfered. This was seen as an example showing that Afghan forces still need support.

Lack of equipment and strong airforce is still considered a big challenge. High Illiteracy rate in Afghan forces is another concern.
