The Taliban that was defeated in 2001 has now turned into a big challenge for Afghanistan and its western allies.

The United States decided to topple the Taliban regime after al-Qaeda carried out the 9/11 attacks.

At that time the United States and its allies only used air strikes and ousted the Taliban that was ruling in more than 90% of the Afghan territory.

In the first years after the fall of the Taliban regime, Afghan citizens could safely travel by road to different part of the country, but soon the situation deteriorated and many parts of the country witnessed increasing violence.

Now the question is why the United States could topple the Taliban regime only by air strikes in 2001, and now militants have regrouped and have turned into a challenge for Afghan government and its western allies while US forces are still present in the county.
