United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Saturday announced that economical challenges are the only factors for an increase in Afghan migrationsUNHCR urged the neighbouring countries to legalise migration of Afghans.
December 18, World Migration Day, is marked all over the world as Afghanistan is among the countries with most immigrants in the world.
Insecurity, poverty and unemployment causes more than thousands of Afghans to leave their country and migrate to neighbouring countries on each day, UNHCR said.
UNHCR believes that until poverty and joblessness are not being addressed, the migrations will continue to remain a challenge.
According to the estimations of UNHCR, each day around 30,000 Afghans quit Afghanistan and seek refuge in the neighbouring countries.
Nader Farhad, the spokesman for UNHCR told TOLOnews: "Today most people migrate to neighbouring countries or even beyond. And economical pressures, lack of access to job opportunities, and widespread poverty make people to migrate."
Some citizens argued that they leave because of financial problems. They said if the Afghan government provides them some work opportunities, they would never go out of Afghanistan.
"It has been eight months that I have no job and it's only because of joblessness that I want to go to Iran," said a Kabul citizen.
Hundreds of thousands of people migrate from one country to another mostly because of poverty and other basic factors which have made the UN assembly to officially announce 18th December as the world migration day.
