Afghan Violence in 2010 left 1292 policemen dead and 2447 other police forces wounded, Afghan Ministry of Interior Affairs (MoI) said on Sunday.

Counter-terrorism campaigns will be doubled in 2011 and special security programmes are on the ground to minimise Taliban-led attacks in the country, the ministry said.

Last year was full of achievements and much more efforts should be made in the fight against al-Qaeda linked insurgents, Zemarai Bashari, the spokesperson for MoI said.

Mr Bashari said around 210 counter-insurgency operations were conducted under full leadership of Afghan security forces during the past year.

In whole 6717 insurgent attacks with 109 of them suicide bombings and 2309 roadside bomb blasts had occurred in 2010, around 2034 civilians were killed and 3571 other civilians were hurt in the incidents, according to the MoI statistics.

In gun battles in 2010, 5225 Taliban fighters were killed and 5596 others were detained police forces, he said.

"We want to ensure security in remote areas of the country and we will be witnessing that security problems would be resolved in those areas," Bashari said.

Earlier British Prime Minister David Cameron called 2011 as an important year for Afghanistan.
