Four policemen and three civilians were killed and 18 others including two policemen were wounded in southern Helmand's district of Lashkargah on Wednesday, local officials said.
According to the provincial spokesman Omar Zowak, the incident occurred at 11 a.m. local time Wednesday morning when a suicide attacker detonated an explosive-laden vehicle near the home of former Nawzad district's police chief.
"Nawzad's former District Police Chief, Abdullah Khan, was wounded in the blast," Zowak said.
According to reports, the Khan is in stable condition.
Helmand's public health department reports that seven people have been killed and 18 others wounded and have been transferred to a local hospital for treatment.
No insurgents groups, including the Taliban, have claimed responsibility yet.
