Afghan police officers shot dead two men wearing suicide vests on Sunday morning in Zabul province, thwarting an attack on a government building, the AP news agency reported, citing Ministry of Interior (MoI) officials.

The officers' shots detonated the insurgents' explosives and both men died, MoI officials said according to the AP.

Separately, the ministry also said in the past week that more than 340 rockets have been fired from Pakistan into Nuristan and Kunar provinces in eastern Afghanistan, the AP reported.

Missiles landing in Dangam district of Nuristan wrecked six homes, two mosques and displaced at least 50 families. The ministry said that it is not sure who is firing the rockets but that they are coming from Pakistani soil.
