Sixteen insurgents were killed and ten others were captured by Afghan and Nato led troops over the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Interior Affairs said on Sunday.

The operation was launched in Kabul, Kapisa, Kandahar, Helmand, Wardak and Khost provinces over the past 24 hours," it said in a statement.

During the operations the forces also discovered and confiscated seven AK-47 assault rifles, five rocket launchers, 18 pistols, 1,900 light bullets, 200 kg of opium and one vehicle, it added.

It comes as two would-be suicide bombers were killed by Afghan security forces in Paktika province on Saturday, local police said on Sunday.

The incident took place in Barmal district of Paktika province when the insurgents attacked on a camp of security guards of a private road construction company, Paktika police added.

Two would-be suicide bombers were gunned down by security forces and the others managed to blow themselves up, it said.

One Afghan civilian was wounded in the incident, it added.

Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.
