Haqqani and Taliban leaders were captured in joint Afghan and Nato troops operation in Afghanistan on Sunday, according to Isaf.

"A Haqqani leader was captured in a joint Afghan and coalition security troops operation in Nerkh district of Wardak province, today," Isaf said in a statement Sunday.

The statement said that during the operation, the security force approached the Haqqani leader's location and an insurgent with an AK-47 moved towards them. The security force engaged the armed insurgent, killing him, it said.

Two suspected insurgents were detained and multiple grenades and an AK-47 were seized by the security force, it added.

The statement also said that a senior Taliban leader was captured in a joint operation in Nad Ali district in southern Helmand province.

The senior leader controlled insurgents throughout Nawah-ye Barakzai, Washer and Nad ‘Ali districts, Isaf said.
