A group of 18 Taliban insurgents laid down their weapons and joined the reconciliation process of the Afghan government in northern Balkh province Wednesday, a local official said.
"An 18-member group of insurgents renounced violence and joined the government in Balkh's Chahar Bolack district today," Commander of 303 Pamir Zone in North of Afghanistan Gen. Baba Jan said.
The men were active in the district and fighting against government, he said.
He told TOLOnews he hoped that the security in the area would improve with the large group joining the peace process.
