An air operation launched by coalition forces in eastern Kunar province on Saturday killed 52 insurgents, including a Taliban commander, a police official said.

Spokesman for the 202 Shamshad police zone said in a statement that the air operation, which took place yesterday in the Chapah Darah district of Kunar, killed the local Taliban commander Atiqullah along with 52 others.

TOLOnews contacted the Kunar police commander and the provincial spokesman for comment but neither was responding to calls on Sunday.
