Five members of a family were shot dead by gunmen in eastern Nangarhar province on Monday in an act attributed by local officials to inter-family conflict.
The shooting happened around 04:00 AM Monday morning in the Torkham area of Nangarhar's Mohmand Dara district when gunmen entered a house and shot dead five men, the provincial governor spokesman Ahmad Zia Abdulzai told TOLOnews Tuesday.
A woman was injured in the attack is being treated at a nearby hospital, he said, adding that the family members were not from the area.
"This [shooting] happened as a result of family conflicts. The family members who were shot dead were residents of eastern Kunar province but they were living in Mohmand Dara," he said.
The number of gunmen has not been confirmed, but Abdulzai said police have started investigating the incident.
Mohmand Dara is a remote district which borders neighbouring Pakistan.
