An American doctor who had been abducted by the Taliban in eastern Afghanistan has been freed, the US-led international forces say.
The man, Dilip Joseph, was freed by US and Afghan forces in a joint operation.
Joseph was abducted December 5 by Taliban insurgents in the Sarobi district in east of Kabul Province.
"Today's mission exemplifies our unwavering commitment to defeating the Taliban," Isaf commander Gen. John Allen said in a statement.
"I'm proud of the American and Afghan forces that planned, rehearsed and successfully conducted this operation. Thanks to them, Dr. Joseph will soon be rejoining his family and loved ones."
Allen ordered the mission when intelligence showed that Joseph was in imminent danger of injury or death, according to Isaf.
No further details have been released about the operation.
