Two Taliban Leaders Captured in Afghan Offensives

News - Afghanistan

Two Taliban leaders were captured in joint Afghan-Nato operations in Afghanistan on Monday, an Isaf statement said.

"An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Taliban leader and detained one suspected insurgent in Andar district, Ghazni province today," the statement said.

The leader commanded a group that organised and executed attacks against Afghan and coalition forces, along with overseeing the placement of improvised explosive devices, according to Isaf.

A second Taliban leader was captured in a joint operation in Nahr-e-Saraj district of southern Helmand province Monday.

The leader played a major role in narcotics trafficking to fund Taliban operations within the district, Isaf said.

He commanded insurgent fighters who were directly responsible for conducting attacks against Afghan and coalition forces, the statement read.
