An Afghan policeman has been killed and five other policemen injured in a bomb blast in western Herat province Wednesday morning, local officials said.

The incident took place about 11:00AM local time in the Islam Qala area of Herat's Kohsan district.

A bomb strapped to a nearby bicycle was detonated as a police vehicle was passing through the area, provincial acting police chief Gen. Abdul Hamid Hamidi said.

No group including the Taliban has claimed responsibility for the blast.

The Islam Qala area shares a border with Iran and has an active insurgency with local troops frequently targeted.
